Tinker Tale 1
Our deep play group will be focusing on using various assessment tools. We are also interested in how to design lessons and assessments to allow for student creativity. In this video, I state our group goals, my goals, and the next steps for our deep play group.
Tinker Tale 2
After having some time to play with various assessment tools, I have had the most success with using Plickers in my classroom. I will discuss the pros and cons of using Plickers. Our Deep Play group has decided to choose one of two books to read: Unflattening by Nick Sousanis and Sparks of Genius: The 13 Thinking Tools of the World's Most Creative People. I hope to learn strategies for fostering creativity in my students, which can range from asking thoughtful questions, designing an investigation, or creating a final product. My immediate focus is to have student groups designing and executing their own chemistry investigation.
Deep Play Hangout
Our Deep Play group is focusing on creativity and assessments. In an effort to learn about how to be more creative teachers to develop more creative students and about various modes of assessment, we choose two books to read. Unflattening by Nick Sousanis and Sparks of Genius by Robert and Michele Root-Bernstein. The video below is a discussion among James Edstrom, Al Lang, and Melanie Yau using Google Hangouts about the two books.

The newsletter distills the ideas we found during our exploration of creativity in the classroom. There are a list of resources to help integrate and inspire creativity in the classroom. One of our group members, Al Lang, included resources to "go paperless" in the classroom, which has lead him to design non-traditional lessons...thus allowing the students to be more creative!

Our group decided on planning a professional development experience for fellow teachers to spark creativity in their teaching and in their students. After attending our PD, teachers will see the value in integrating creativity and walk away with ideas to increase creativity in their classroom!
